Managing Subscribers
Manage your subscriber list — add, import, tag, segment, filter, and export subscribers in Nashra.
Your subscriber list
The Subscribers page gives you a complete view of your audience — who they are, how they signed up, and how engaged they are.
Adding subscribers
Add manually
Go to Subscribers, click Add Subscriber, enter their email (and optionally name and tags), and save.
Import from a file
Click Import
On the Subscribers page, click Import.
Upload your file
Drag and drop a CSV or Excel file. It should have at least an email column.
Map your columns
Nashra detects columns automatically. Review the mapping for email, first name, last name, and other fields.
Add tags (optional)
Tag all imported subscribers — e.g., "imported-from-mailchimp."
Start import
Click import. You can track progress as it runs.
Only import subscribers who have given you permission to email them.
Tags
Tags are labels you attach to subscribers to organize them by interest, source, or behavior. Think of tags as sticky notes — each subscriber can have as many as you need.
Common tags: "instagram", "website", "customer", "free-trial", "VIP"
You can apply tags:
- When adding or importing subscribers
- In bulk from the subscriber list
- Automatically via Magic Links and Form Action URLs
- Through Automations as subscribers move through workflows
Tagging strategies
Here are some practical ways to use tags:
| Strategy | Example tags | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| By signup source | "instagram", "website", "webinar", "referral" | Know where your audience comes from |
| By interest | "design", "development", "marketing" | Send content people actually care about |
| By customer stage | "lead", "free-trial", "customer", "churned" | Tailor messaging to where someone is in their journey |
| By product | "product-a", "product-b", "enterprise" | Target updates to the right users |
| By engagement | "VIP", "inactive", "super-fan" | Reward engaged subscribers, re-engage quiet ones |
Pick a naming convention and stick with it. Lowercase with hyphens (e.g., "free-trial") keeps things clean as your list grows.
Segments
Segments are saved groups of subscribers based on conditions you define. Unlike tags (which you apply manually or through automations), segments update automatically — subscribers enter and leave a segment as their data changes.
Tags vs. segments
| Tags | Segments | |
|---|---|---|
| How they work | Labels you attach to subscribers | Filters that group subscribers by conditions |
| Updates | Manual or via automations | Automatic — always up to date |
| Best for | Categorizing by source, interest, or stage | Targeting based on behavior, properties, or combinations |
| Example | "VIP" tag on loyal subscribers | "Opened last 3 emails AND subscribed > 30 days ago" |
Creating a segment
Go to Subscribers
Open the Subscribers page from your dashboard sidebar.
Click Segments
Click the Segments tab to view your existing segments or create a new one.
Define conditions
Add one or more conditions. You can combine conditions with AND (all must match) or OR (any can match).
Name and save
Give your segment a clear name and save it. The subscriber count updates in real time.
Segment conditions
You can build segments using these condition types:
| Condition type | Examples |
|---|---|
| Tags | Has tag "customer", does not have tag "churned" |
| Subscriber status | Subscribed, unconfirmed, unsubscribed |
| Subscription date | Subscribed before/after a date, subscribed in the last 30 days |
| Custom fields | Country is "US", plan is "pro", company size > 50 |
| Engagement | Opened last email, clicked in the last 7 days, never opened |
Segment examples
Here are segments you might create for common use cases:
Engaged subscribers
Subscribers who opened or clicked an email in the last 30 days. Use this for your most important announcements — these people are paying attention.
New subscribers
Subscribed in the last 7 days. Perfect for a "getting started" newsletter or a special welcome offer.
At-risk subscribers
Subscribed more than 60 days ago AND has not opened in the last 30 days. Target these with a re-engagement campaign before they go cold.
VIP customers
Has tag "customer" AND has tag "VIP." Send exclusive content, early access, or premium offers.
More examples:
- Free trial users — Has tag "free-trial" AND subscribed in the last 14 days. Send targeted conversion emails.
- Blog readers only — Has tag "website" AND does not have tag "customer." Nurture them toward becoming customers.
- Enterprise leads — Custom field "company-size" > 100 AND has tag "lead." Route to your sales-focused content.
- Regional targeting — Custom field "country" is "Germany." Send localized content or comply with regional regulations.
Using segments when sending
When you're ready to send a newsletter, you choose exactly who receives it:
Open the send dialog
From the editor, click Send to open the send dialog.
Choose your audience
Under Audience, select one of three options:
- All subscribers — sends to everyone
- By tag — pick one or more tags
- By segment — pick a saved segment
Review the count
Nashra shows you how many subscribers match your selection. Review before sending.
Send or schedule
Click Send to deliver now, or choose a date and time to schedule it.
Targeted emails to specific segments typically lead to higher open rates than sending to your entire list. A segment like "engaged subscribers" can improve open rates significantly because you're emailing people who are already reading.
Segments in automations
Segments also work as entry conditions in Automations. For example, you can trigger a workflow when a subscriber enters a segment — like sending a re-engagement series when someone lands in your "at-risk" segment.
Filtering and search
- Search — Find subscribers by name or email
- Filter by status — Subscribed, unconfirmed, or unsubscribed
- Filter by tag — View subscribers with a specific tag
- Filter by segment — View subscribers in a saved segment
Subscriber details
Click any subscriber to see their profile: email, name, tags, status, subscription date, engagement metrics, and custom fields.
Custom fields
Create custom fields (text, number, date, boolean) to store additional subscriber data. Manage them from the column settings on the subscribers table.
Custom fields are useful for:
- Storing subscriber attributes like country, company, or role
- Personalizing emails with subscriber-specific data
- Building more precise segments (e.g., "company-size > 50")
Exporting
Go to Subscribers and click Export to download your list as a CSV. You can export your full list or the subscribers currently shown (after filtering by tag, segment, or status). You own your data.
Subscriber statuses
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Subscribed | Active — receives your emails |
| Unconfirmed | Has not confirmed their email yet (if double opt-in is enabled) |
| Unsubscribed | Opted out of receiving emails |
